Wild Woman Summer Camp | 2022

Wild Woman Summer Camp 2022 was our second annual Summer Camp with four days and three nights at KitFox in Galisteo, New Mexico. This year we also opened up the experience to Day-Campers to join our overnight campers for Hat-Shaping and our Leather and Macrame crafternoons.

KitFox set the stage for an incredible Summer Solstice weekend with luxurious tents and gracious hospitality amidst the expansive New Mexico desert. The monsoons rolled in to cool us off and sweeten the smell of the desert. If the sky wasn’t already epic, we were in for a treat as the expansive sky put on a show each afternoon! Campers had so many wonderful activities to take part in, some of which included Old West Tintype portraits with Taos Tintype and Fly Fishing with High Desert Angler.

“There is an energy and grounding that happens when like-minded women gather, and even though no worldly problem was solved (or even discussed), the easy going spirit that radiated among everyone provided a gentle reminder that I do have value.”

We ate like desert queens at Wild Woman Summer Camp with the culinary magic from Dig + Serve. Each meal was organic, inspiring, healthy and delicious and the solar snow cones made with fresh berries and mint were to DIE FOR! Roughing it never tasted so good!

“Food that fuels your soul. Movement and crafts that awaken your body and senses. Conversations that crack-ya-open and deep belly laughs with friends that will last forever.

One of the favorite activities at Wild Woman Summer Camp was our excursion to the Pecos River to shape sun hats with Sam of Ramblin Rose Hat Co . She guided all of our campers to shape their own straw hat in the river and then adding custom accessories. We lounged in tall grasses and picnicked in the cool shade of the riverside trees of our mountain retreat. We had so much fun adorning our hats with feathers, beads, claws and crystals!

“It's structured like a traditional Summer Camp with engaging activities but the magic happens in the connections that you make with other participants and the DIS-connection from wifi and everyday life. I got to do some awesome activities that I enjoyed and I got to get space from my life to just focus on myself and my current emotional state.”

Our ““Crafternoons” brought lessons in macrame as we learned to create a custom hat holder with Leanne Shannon and continued with a tutorial make our own leather wallets with Jessi Lloyd. Campers took part in an archery lesson from counselor Amina Akhil with the great wide open New Mexico desert to practice their aim! Along with hiking the great trails around camp, we started every morning off with a full-body movement and a deep and profound meditation practice led by Alexis Cintron. Jen Antill provided incredible personal astrology readings during the day and as the sun set we gathered in circle, snuggled around our “Fire-ban Fire pit” with the coziest Sheepa hides, for a personal journalling session during our Solstice Ceremony.

“It was the most amazing experience discovering new and reconnecting with existing parts of my female self. I loved learning how better to tap into my strengths and gifts to be able to nurture in myself as well as in others. The experience was meaningful, fun, quirky, tasty, relaxing, and wonderfully uncomfortable (which is how we grow).”

Our campers received SWAG bags filled with goodies like hand-knotted keychains, essential oil bug repellent, “Wild Woman” Opinel knives and a slew of all natural bath and beauty products. We were so excited to feature products from small, female-owned businesses like the Sun Shield from Taos Bee, Oils and Salves from La Morada Folk and Mia’s Botanicals, Lotion Bars from Pretty Planet , journals from Pushpin Collective, deodorant from Humble Brands , New Mexico stickers and cards from Nicky Ovitt and a hand-screened bandanas designed by Jessie Baca.
